    Lamb was born on 10 February, 1775 and bred up in London. A place called Temple is associated with him, which is an old building used for lawyers. He was the son of John Lamb, a clerk of one of the lawyers, Samuel Salt. He was the youngest of his seven siblings, out of those only three survived infancy.

    He spent seven years of his boyhood at Christ’s Hospital, a charity school and before that, he was merely taught at home by his elder sister Mary.
